Arsenal travel to the King Power Stadium on Sunday to face high-flying Leicester in the Premier League, bidding to get their domestic season back on track. Here is the match preview.

With emotions through the roof in Athens but three minutes from the end of the 3-2 win over Benfica, Arsenal kept their European ambitions alive in the dramatic fashion. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s late header ensured that the Champions League dream stays alive for a little while longer.

A full 11 points adrift of the top four in the Premier League, hopes of qualification to the elite competition via the league are all-but beyond the Gunners’ reach, with faint hopes of a Europa League berth all that are left to play for, even if mathematically both are still on the cards.

The fixtures between now and the end of the season are not welcome ones for Mikel Arteta, starting with a Foxes side who have their own targets in mind.

Slavia Prague stunned Brendan Rodgers’ men in the Europa League round of 32, meaning Leicester’s sights are fixated solely on securing a top four spot and qualifying for the Champions League.

In exceptional form this campaign, only the two Manchester sides have lost fewer matches and their third-place standing in the table is credit to the continued fine work Rodgers has overseen in his two years on the job.

The reverse leg earlier this season was a crushing defeat for Arsenal who had looked threatening in the opening stages only to be undone by Jamie Vardy – who else? – ten minutes from time at the Emirates Stadium.

Both sides have improved since the October meeting, although Arsenal’s trajectory included one of the darkest spells of Premier League form most supporters will ever have witnessed. Buoyed by the dramatic Europa League win, spirits will be high for the trip north even if plenty of legs will be feeling the strain of playing their ‘home’ leg some 1,500 miles from London.

Arsenal need to claw their way into the top half and Leicester need to keep breathing space between themselves, West Ham and Chelsea below, with plenty to play for on Sunday as the season enters its final 13-game stretch.
