Is the Report Believable? Can We Expect a Move?

In short, no.

The report comes out of TuttoJuve (it would help if they spelled Bellerin’s name right), who then source their information from ‘the English press’. All across said ‘English press’ there is no mention at all of any Bellerin swap deal involving either Rabiot or Costa.

It’s an easy link to make at this tender stage of the season. Bellerin has been of interest to Juventus previously, he seems destined to leave come the summer and The Old Lady have two players whose futures aren’t in northern Italy.

In need of bolstering in that area there is every chance – a decent one – that Juventus will approach Bellerin’s representatives and Arsenal to discuss some kind of arrangement, and the Serie A champions would favour a swap deal in the current financial market.

On this occasion it is an opportunistic report with no factual basis, the like of which we can expect to see plenty of in the coming months as the rumours surrounding Bellerin’s future ramp up.

Knowing they can accrue £30m+ for the long-serving defender, Arsenal would strongly oppose a swap deal unless there was cash involved alongside. Even then, it would need to be the right player to match the profile of individual Arteta and Edu have earmarked, which neither Rabiot or Costa are.

Next. 4 Bellerin replacements. dark

Prepare for a tidal wave of similarly questionable reports. But, either way, no Costa and no Rabiot. Wrong players, wrong times.
