Arsenal travel to Turf Moor on Saturday to face Sean Dyche’s Burnley after a welcome week break from Premier League action. Here is the match preview.

Oh how spirits have lifted! Staring down to barrel of a second consecutive Europa League round of 32 exit, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s late header ensured dreams of European silverware remain alive and kicking.

The highs of progression to the last 16 to face Olympiacos were added to by a stirring 3-1 comeback win over Leicester last time out, a victory that was as sorely needed as it was impressive. Mikel Arteta rested key players for the fixture but still saw his side produce one of the best performances of his reign to maintain hopes of European qualification via league position, even if just for another week.

Rewarded with a welcome seven-day break, a trip to Lancashire awaits next ahead of another journey to Athens for the first leg of their tie with Olympiacos.

Arsenal have a near-perfect record against Dyche’s side in the Premier League, avoiding defeat and dropping just two points in the previous 13 meetings in the competition, a run that was finally ended in woeful fashion as Aubameyang’s own goal handed the Clarets victory in the reverse meeting back in December.

Mikel Arteta’s side are a shadow of the outfit who slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium and since Boxing Day have been one of the form sides in the Premier League, this despite bitterly disappointing defeats to Wolves and Aston Villa on that run.

By contrast, Burnley have won just two of their last ten matches in all competitions and find themselves hovering perilously close to the relegation zone with 11 matches left of their season to play. In terms of offering a threat, only rock bottom Sheffield United (16) have scored fewer goals than their 19.

It’s a fixture that Arsenal are favourites to win even with the two sides’ earlier meeting in mind, and one the visitors know is essential to maintaining their unlikely push for a European berth this season. Equally, Burnley need to make ground between themselves and the stragglers.
