Barcelona President Wants to Sign Hector Bellerin

Barcelona have just held their presidential elections and Joan Laporta has won by a landslide. Being in the role between 2003 and 2010, he has vowed to bring back positivity upon his announcement.

One of his plans is to re-sign Bellerin.

As reported by the Mirror, Laporta has already held discussions with the 25-year-old’s representatives about sealing a deal for the summer, with Bellerin thought to be keen on a return to the club he left to join Arsenal in 2011.

Under contract until 2023, the Gunners find themselves in an unusually strong position of negotiation, with the rumoured asking price set in the region of £35m. In the event of any sale there would have to be another right-back brought, with Arsenal already sounding out their targets.

However, while on paper there is basis to Bellerin moving back Camp Nou, behind the scenes there are major question marks over Barça’s financial clout. Not even question marks actually. Legitimate concerns.

One of the worst run clubs of modern times, Laporta comes in with an escalating £420m worth of debt and a stadium in drastic need of renovation, while the Lionel Messi situation remains a fraught with uncertainty as ever.

It would come as no surprise to see La Blaugrana try their hand at a swap deal, as they have done many times before to navigate their way past being plunged into any further debt.
