Midfielders

Thomas Partey (CM) – Arsenal’s star man in midfield, Thomas Partey, delivered something of a mixed performance against Burnley. He played an instrumental role for the Gunners’ goal, driving the team out of defence, but looked very lethargic in the second half. Likely a product of his lack of football lately. So, tomorrow will represent another opportunity for him to work towards full fitness.

Granit Xhaka (CM) – There’s genuine cause for debate with this one. You sense Granit Xhaka’s costly error against Burnley can’t just be swept under the carpet. Should he be punished? Perhaps. Dani Ceballos does indeed offer more than adequate offer. However, Xhaka is a player who tends to respond when his ability is questioned, so I think Arteta will stick with him against Olympiacos.

Martin Ødegaard (CAM) – The boss’s decision to withdraw Martin Ødegaard on the hour mark at Turf Moor was a peculiar one. Some have suggested it was to enable Arsenal to get more men in the box by bringing on a natural goalscorer in Alexanddre Lacazette, but at the same time Arsenal lost some creative ingenuity.

Maybe it was to protect him ahead of the all-important Europa League tie. It’d be nice to see the Norwegian grab his first goal contribution in an Arsenal shirt in Athens.
