It won’t come as a surprise to know Arsenal are in need of new footballers: quicker, more consistent, stronger, generally better ones. It will come as a surprise, though, to hear they’ve made an offer for Antoine Griezmann at Barcelona. Yes, really.

For those who remember the Frenchman’s self-indulgent La Decision documentary abomination in which he teased over his future with a series of hideous trailers and video montages, go take a cold shower now. Sorry for the reminder.

That concept centered around his Atletico Madrid future, having been the focus of intense interest from Barcelona for a couple of years. It wasn’t surprising, as his haul of 133 goals in 257 outings was a glorious return for the versatile forward.

Having committed his future to Los Rojiblancos in the summer of 2018, he proceeded to leave just one year later despite penning a contract until 2023. Barcelona paid his €120m release clause and off he popped to join Lionel Messi and co.

It’s been anything but the fairytale move Antoine Griezmann would have hoped for. He hasn’t won a trophy at the club, albeit in only one and a half seasons, and he won’t win one this season either. He doesn’t suit the team, nor his teammates, and the off-field turmoil hasn’t helped.

Who’re you going to call? Arsenal Football Club.

Diario Gol in Spain are reporting that with Joan Laporta being announced as president of the club following the recent elections, Griezmann will be ‘packing his bags’.

Looking to pounce on that uncertainty, Mikel Arteta and Edu are waiting in the wings for when the opportunity arises. So much so, they’ve tabled a bid for the World Cup winner as they prepare for a monumental summer rebuild. There will be unprecedented movement in and out of the club just as there was in the winter window.

Is this deal actually possible?
