Arsenal Target Bargain Patson Daka Deal

It’s key to conclude what exactly ‘a bargain‘ is. When a player has made his name in a division where there is only one side challenging for the title and with teammates a cut above the rest of the league, it can be harder to define.

Daka has been in exceptional form for Salzburg in the past two seasons, netting 54 goals and registering 20 assists during that period. At just 22 years old, his stock is rising at a similar rate to his goals tally, and it’s become impossible to ignore his accomplishments in Austria.

Daka scores all manner of goals, is adept in the air, frighteningly quick, strong and, not commonly seen in strikers these days, impressively two-footed.

So impressive, that Salzburger Nachrichten claim Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal are all vying for his signature come the end of the season. He’s valued at around £17m by the club, the same fee that Borussia Dortmund parted with to bring Erling Haaland to Germany from Salzburg in December 2019.

The Red Bull sides are historically selling clubs, allowing players to grow and develop before being moved on for a profit. At £17m, Daka’s profile and scoring rate, which account for a relatively low-risk transfer, do indeed make him a bargain.

Factor in football finances being crippled by the coronavirus pandemic and the prices that are being demanded for strikers – every position, in fairness – with an English passport and it strikes a  fair deal.

However, while a valuation is one thing, a bidding war is another. He may have that price tag slapped on his head, but as he continues to hit superb figures for his club and improve upon his previous seasons, when clubs start showing their hand his price will only rise up.

If he’s the man Arsenal want there is no reason why £17m won’t do the trick, until the rest of the Premier League makes its move and the fee inevitably hikes up. It’s mentioned in the report, which notes how heavy the interest is.
