Perr Schuurs – Ajax & Netherlands Under-21

Another centre-back? That’s right, but Perr Schuurs is the last one on the list and here simply because of links to Arsenal in the past.

All aboard the comparison train, which unsurprisingly likens Ajax’s young central defender to previous young Ajax central defender Matthijs de Ligt. Well, he’s still young, but you catch the drift.

A physically imposing defender who stands at 6ft 3in tall, the Dutchman is a progressive player who fits the mould of a ‘modern centre-back’. As comfortable with the ball at his feet as he is headbutting crosses away from his own box, regular impressive outings for this club have drawn the attentions of Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund – links that have been around since he was just 17 years old.

Again, Arsenal may not need another centre-back with other areas of the pitch requiring more urgent attention, but given the Gunners are keeping their eyes peeled in this department they shouldn’t avert their gaze too far from the 21-year-old.

Netting for his country in their European Championship opener against Romania, Schuurs has already made a fine impression to the multitude of clubs watching his every move.
