North London held a collective breathe in midweek as Martin Odegaard slammed his fists into the floor at the end of the first of half of Norway’s eventual World Cup qualifier win over Gibraltar. Arsenal can now breathe a sigh of relief, instead.

The midfielder was leading his side out for the first time as captain after being named as the man with the armband by Ståle Solbakken in the build up to the current international break.

It was the usual elegant performance from Martin Odegaard, this time at the top of a diamond, as Norway made light work of their low-ranked opposition.

Dancing through a couple of challenges before falling to the flow unchallenged in the box, Odegaard attempted to play on but eventually signaled to the bench that he needed to be brought off.

Arsenal receive Martin Odegaard injury update after Norway captain suffers ankle sprain in World Cup qualifier win over Gibraltar

Twisting his ankle as he fell, the initial diagnosis was that he had simply rolled his ankle and would be available again soon enough, although no definitive answer was given.

Solbakken was positive, however, and as Norway prepare for the visit of Turkey for round two of their group stage matches, Odegaard has been pictured in training with the ball at this feet by journalist Arilas Ould-Saada.

Not only has he been in action, but the VG reporter added:

"“Martin Ødegaard passing the rondo test without a problem as well. Few signs that he won’t play against Turkey on Saturday.”"

Crossing fingers and toes that there were no casualties during the international break for Arsenal fans, seeing someone of his incredible importance to the team of late suffer a scare brings out the fear in everyone.

While he seems fine there will need to be patience with his progress as mentioned by Dr Rajpal Brar, DPT, who insisted that ‘there’s risk for re-injury especially in the short-term following an ankle sprain’.

In all honesty, supporters would’ve preferred if Odegaard had been out for just over a week so he’d miss both Norway matches, and then could be back fresh as a daisy for the Premier League visit of Liverpool.

Next. Martin masterclass. dark

But that’s being selfish. This is good news for him and Norway. No lasting damage.
