Arsenal will have the chance to snap up one of Europe’s most complete midfielders in the summer after it was revealed that Marcel Sabitzer plans to leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season.

Like London buses, all appears to be running smoothly for RB Leipzig then suddenly they’re hit with a mass exodus of players making their way out the door.

First of all it was announced that Dayot Upamecano was leaving, then Ibrahima Konate followed suit and now they’ve been smacked across the face with the news that their captain is wanting out.

Marcel Sabitzer is a familiar name to Premier League watchers as he’s been linked with most of the top six at some point over the past 24 months. Back in January Arsenal were listed among the interested parties, even if no movement was expected until the summer.

And the summer it is. BILD in Germany have revealed that after seven seasons with the club, the Austrian has now made his intentions clear and he wishes to leave the Bundesliga in search of pastures new.

As per the report it’s Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool who’re most keen, with no mention of Arsenal, even if the prospect of the midfielder moving to north London is enough to get the toes tingling.

Numbers were being flung about last season of a £50m asking price, one RB Leipzig are in no position to demand this time around as the midfielder has little over one year left to run on his contract.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side are still holding out for £36m, which is hefty amount considering the player’s wishes, his contractual situation and the understanding that they have to sell this summer to avoid losing him for free next time around.

What Arsenal need is bodies in midfield. Not even direct Granit Xhaka upgrades or the ideal Thomas Partey partner, just actual bodies to share the load and offer diversity of profile.

Sabitzer is a midfielder, and he isn’t. Essentially, he’s everything.
