Arsenal transfer stance on Nabil Fekir revealed – and it’s the right call
Linked with every man and his dog this season, even when there are months to go until the summer transfer window opens, Arsenal could’ve signed an entire division’s worth of players. Nabil Fekir is the latest one.
The Frenchman has been linked with Arsenal after it was revealed that Real Betis’ worrying financial predicament will result in them selling off their most valuable assets in a bid to reach some level of monetary security.
Nabil Fekir is among the most valuable, having continued to impress as a creative operator since joining from Lyon in a surprise move back in 2019. The 27-year-old has netted three goals and recorded six La Liga assists for Betis this season, having notched seven league goals and as many assists last campaign.
News of Arsenal’s interest has arisen at a point where Martin Odegaard‘s extended Gunners stay has become the vital piece of the summer transfer window puzzle.
Arsenal’s transfer stance on Nabil Fekir is revealed and it’s the right call as focus remains on Martin Odegaard
Previously smitten, it’s now a full-blown love affair with the Norwegian who has captured the hearts of all associated with Arsenal. Rarely does a player arrive mid-season to a new division he’s and make the impression he has. Best of all, he just keeps getting better.
With Fekir, the idea was to have a backup. Arsenal have to make contingency plans in the case of other deals falling through, even if the former Lyon man will never excite to the levels that Odegaard has.
As reported by football.london, the tracking of Fekir is nothing more than ‘tentative’, leading to any move in the summer being ‘unlikely’. Indeed, it’s full steam ahead on the Odegaard train.
It’s the right move to make even if Arsenal would be foolish to cut ties with other alternatives if Odegaard isn’t brought back to the Emirates. Fekir, while talented, isn’t the profile this side needs. £26m would be better spent on other options, players who can dictate the flow of matches.
That level of control, bringing others into play and lifting the games of those around them is what the 22-year-old brings. Fekir would add some flair, but he wouldn’t solve a conundrum that Odegaard decodes.
Whatever deal brings Odegaard back to Arsenal will be complicated. However, the ‘alternatives’ they have in mind must be just that. Fekir isn’t.
