Arsenal have been linked with more centre-forwards in the past few months than they had in the entirety of the Emirates era. Whether they’re tall, small, quick or slow, if said player has bagged a few goals then he’s probably been a rumoured target.

Football is a remarkable sport. One minute you’re a hopeless finisher who must be sold at all costs and replaced with a younger, faster, sharper and more clinical version of yourself and the next minute you’ve got four goals in two appearances and hitting club-high form.

Indeed, Alexandre Lacazette‘s future remains an interesting topic of debate. Operating in a tactical role with the right personnel around him he is flourishing under Mikel Arteta of late, counterbalanced throughout the season with the customary dry patches.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is going nowhere this summer and miraculously, neither is Folarin Balogun. If Lacazette stays that’s three centre-forwards, before even mentioning the plan in place to mould Gabriel Martinelli into a No. 9.

One of the main desires in a new striker for Arsenal, should they seek to acquire one, is that he is strong in the air. Dusan Vlahovic was rumoured back in March, a player who fits that profile.

Now, the noise coming out of Belgium is that the Gunners have got another striker ‘on their list’, KAA Gent forward Roman Yaremchuk. That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who confirm that the player is seeking an exit in the summer having reluctantly agreed to stay on for another season so the club could earn a bigger price for him a year on.

That’s now set at €20m, a decent enough figure for a player yet to properly ply his trade outside of Belgium. Tall, bruising and an accomplished finisher, he fits the bill of what Arsenal would need.

Do they actually need him, though? This question will remain unanswered until a decision is made on Lacazette, and then even so with options such as the younger Odsonne Edouard available for less, as well as Patson Daka in Austria, there better uses for their resources.

As the clock ticks down on the 2020/21 campaign, it grows increasingly likely that Arsenal may stick instead of twist when it comes to their centre-forwards. Perhaps against the public grain.
