Arsenal, almost exactly 48 hours after signing up, pulled out of the breakaway Super League. A malicious plan hatched with unfathomable amateurism lasted less time than a container ship blocked the Suez Canal.

When the news broke of Chelsea’s decision to back out, followed swiftly by Manchester City, like dominoes, all these crooked pieces came crashing down.

The backlash was incredible. Every corner of the footballing world vehemently opposed this atrocity. Premier League supporters were loudest.

These six owners, and their ‘friends’ across the continent, truly believed they could get this operation in motion, one many years in the making without a full set of founders, a PR strategy in place to sell this, the say-so of their own employees, sponsors, broadcasters and a plan in place for the five teams who would be invited to join. What did they have? Dollar signs for eyes and a 23 year loan repayment agreement.

Arsenal statement after Super League departure is disingenuous nonsense that lies for Stan Kroenke

That was it.

Unannounced audacity (stupidity) that they could see this through without fans or players on their side is perhaps the most incompetent of all. However, there was some who claimed they had to join in. For fear of being left behind with the bottom dwellers of the Premier League. FOMO. Arsenal claimed this.

"“[…]when the invitation to join the Super League came, while knowing there were no guarantees, we did not want to be left behind to ensure we protected Arsenal and its future,” their statement read."

They apologised when others didn’t. It’s the bare minimum demanded of them, so credit in that respect. But that sentiment lasts seconds. And, it doesn’t mean what they said is true.

Stan Kroenke was not handed an invitation. If an invite was offered to him, it was attached to a boomerang he’d thrown himself. Widely reported, including by The Athletic, Arsenal were ‘far more central to the planning process’.

No late zoom meeting on Sunday night. No text ‘JOIN’ to 5556 or pay £2 extra for a second entry with a third on the house. KSE knew what they were doing. Arsenal weren’t sardines swept up as bycatch, they were the ones helping cast the net.

Supporters have been treated with utter contempt. We’re furious. We all should be. All of this heinous act can’t be forgotten. It most certainly won’t. Whose name was on the statement? It sure wasn’t Kroenke’s.

Next. Royal move. dark

Protests have already been arranged, the like we’ve seen many of before, however, never like this. Not with this emotion. Stan Kroenke is not fit to use the Emirates Stadium toilets, let alone own the damn thing.
