Arsenal: Daniel Ek insists he is ‘very serious’ about KSE takeover bid
Daniel Ek has not backed down from his efforts to purchase Arsenal from the KSE ownership despite the statement put out by the Kroenke family, insisting he is ‘very serious’.
The Spotify CEO has joined forces with Arsenal legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira, who have become part of his consortium as they seek to purchase KSE’s stakes from them and assume ownership of the club.
Supporters have reached boiling point in regards to the current ownership after KSE’s decision to breakaway and form part of the Super League, a greedy and arrogant move that bypassed all other parties in search of their own financial gain.
Protests were held in rebuttal to the decision, albeit the outrage from fans being the result of years worth of regret and disengagement, with the ESL move simply the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Daniel Ek insists he is ‘very serious’ about Arsenal takeover bid from KSE
In came Daniel Ek. The Swedish billionaire ‘threw his hat into the ring’ while the protests went on, since making his intentions known as he confirmed to CNBC that this is no PR stunt from him, and in fact a legitimate desire to purchase Arsenal.
"“I’ve been an Arsenal fan since I was 8. Arsenal is my team, I love the history, players and fans,” he said, via Sky Sports. “I just see a tremendous opportunity to set a real vision for the club to bring it back to its glory… I’m very serious. I have secured the funds for it.”"
Of course, the elephant in the room is the statement the Kroenke family put out on Tuesday to fend off any potential bidder (very clearly Ek) even if their ‘statement’ was the most tinpot of its kind from billionaire owners and more closely resembled someone opening their phone to scribble down the ingredients for Thai Green Curry.
"Ek responded to that, stating: “I’m prepared that this could be a long journey. All I can do is prepare a very thoughtful offer and hope they hear me out.”"
His passion is clear. This is someone who wants to see the club return to the upper echelons of European football, and he won’t be giving in any time soon.
"“I’m first and foremost a fan. I want the club to do better, that’s my primary interest,” he concluded."
He claims to have the money, but how much money will it take? Will he be selling Spotify shares? For those not willing to sell, you have to wonder how he knows the limit. In any case he has the backing of club legends already and the desire to do so.
Everyone has their price.
