Newcastle vs Arsenal prediction
Two teams with, for the most part, very little to play for. Newcastle definitely can’t rest on their laurels and will know victory coupled with a Fulham defeat at Chelsea will put them 12 points clear of the Cottagers with just four matches left to play. West Brom could still sneak up but at this stage it would require a remarkable turnaround for the bottom three to change.
As for the visitors, they just need a win.
If it will require a miracle for the bottom three to change, it will require an even greater one for Arsenal to claw their way up into a top five finish. Despite their favourable results, it just isn’t going to happen.
Thus with a monumental clash on the horizon the following week, Arteta has to rotate his squad and give those on the fringes a chance. Equally, he knows how vital securing a morale-boosting win will be ahead of Villarreal and may opt against making wholesale changes.
Wilson returning is a huge boost for the Magpies, just so that it means Joelinton won’t have to start, even though that is countered by the lack of Willock in midfield.
Arteta has the opportunity to get some minutes into legs in need of fitness, one he must take up. His side need to be competitive, commanding and balanced, three elements they were not on Thursday. Against a rejuvenated Newcastle, however, they may have to settle for a point.
