Illan Meslier – Leeds

Leeds United have burst onto the Premier League this season in their debut campaign after over a decade-long absence. Their attacking, swashbuckling style has made for a fun viewing for both fans and neutrals. Marcelo Bielsa and the forward players will always get ample attention, but Illan Meslier’s performances at the back deserve praise of their own.

The French keeper has recently caught headlines for becoming the youngest player to record ten clean sheets in the Premier League, a credit to the side’s defensive performances but his own, too.

This is especially impressive given how adventurous Leeds are in attack, regularly committing bodies forward, leaving both the defense and Meslier exposed.

Meslier is only 21 years old, even younger than the previously mentioned Unai Simon. He boasts Premier League experience and has shown a calmness when playing out from the back. The goalkeeper is also left-footed, which could help Arsenal release Kieran Tierney quickly when the defender comes back from injury and resumes bombing down the flank.

Given his performances, he would not be cheap by any means but the fact that he can suit up for more than a decade means that Edu should certainly be looking at Meslier.
