Trust: a word familiar to all and one Mikel Arteta has yet to win over from the growing crowd of disillusioned Arsenal supporters. As the season has peddled along, belief in those at the steering wheel has gone from backseat relaxation to hands over the eyes for fear of the crashing.

There is no masking over how important the upcoming summer will be. What takes place over the coming months will shape the future of the club beyond next season. Every single decision made in terms of personnel has to be meticulously analysed and applied.

Can we really trust those to oversee it?

Arteta should never have been named manager as early as he had. It was a stupid move by an inexperienced team that merely thrust more pressure and responsibility on another inexperienced man with than he could have dealt with to begin with.

Edu and Vinai Venkatesham are rookie men in positions of immense control, and they haven’t done anything as of yet to convince supporters they can place their belief in them. Neither has the manager.

Arteta has done a lot right at Arsenal. Changes he’s implemented have been undoubtedly for the better and at this stage sacking him won’t absolve the club of its plight. He is a symptom not the sole cause. But decisions made up until this point do no paint the Spaniard in a shining light. He leaned excruciatingly towards short-term gain by utilising players who should not have been anywhere near the starting lineup. In almost every single case, they failed.

There is an outstanding young central defender in William Saliba who Arsenal spent heavily on to recruit who is yet to play a single minute of senior football, while Mustafi was allowed to steal a living all the way up until January.

Likewise, Sead Kolasinac was earning minutes that Ainsley Maitland-Niles should have; Dani Ceballos, who was never going to stay permanently, took development time from Joe Willock; Willian has been atrocious all season while Reiss Nelson is frozen out and Nicolas Pepe had to bide his time. Poor decisions all round.

There, sadly, is more.
