It will require more than just one spectacular summer transfer for Arsenal fans to get back on board with their club, although one marquee signing will not go amiss as the major squad rebuild is already underway. Eduardo Camavinga could be part of it.

‘If you do not buy a ticket you will not win the raffle’ has never been more relevant.

Arsenal have a panoply of issues to contend with this summer, with decisions to make that will shape the future of the club. Nobody is disillusioned otherwise, yet it’s the people who have been tasked to make them who don’t fill supporters with hope.

Poor recruitment has plagued the Emirates Stadium for years, with failings in the transfer market still having a damaging impact on the club years down the line. Mesut Ozil, now at Fenerbahce, is still earning 90% of his £350k-per-week salary from Arsenal. Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis had to have their contracts cancelled. The list goes on.

Going through previous transfer windows is like swimming in a sea of regret. So many appalling mistakes.

That can’t happen this summer. Every single transfer, be it in or out, has to be thought out with an actual strategy in mind. One that caters to the long-term and abandons crippling short-termism. Players of the right age, profile and talent; stop dishing out fat contracts to those with one foot in Dubai; be smart, for once.

This has to apply to all areas of the pitch. One rule for all. Who exactly the club can bring in on their limited budget despite apparent ‘investment‘ and with no European football to entice is another shackling factor. Arsenal are still a huge football club despite their struggles, but even Raul Sanllehi would have to admit the knock isn’t quite as deafening.

Fans will have drawn up their wishlists, one more realistic with the others entering into dream territory. Well, based on the reports coming out of France, the latter list could be the one to look at as Alexis Bernard of Le10sport claims Arsenal have made Eduardo Camavinga their priority signing this summer.
