Arsenal transfer proposals suffering from league position
Mikel Arteta has stated he hopes to get his transfer business at Arsenal sorted as soon into the window as feasible, an ideal echoed across the football world but one that is suffering as a result of a torrid season without any European football.
Come Sunday Arsenal may find themselves in the newly formed UEFA Europa Conference League, a competition that may act more of a distraction depending on next season‘s aim. The Europa League and Champions League are beyond their grasp, thus some level of continental football, however unappealing it may be, could be of some interest.
Working alongside technical director Edu, Arteta has submitted his plans to the board of directors already, outlining his goals for the coming summer window as he embarks on a wholesale rebuild project in north London.
Vast departures will be met with a solid number of incomings, with the entire landscape of the Arsenal squad due for a much-needed remodeling.
Arsenal transfer proposals suffering from league position as targets mull on offers over lack of European football
The Athletic’s David Ornstein was speaking to Sky Sports about the club’s plans, revealing that Arsenal have already submitted a number of proposals to potential player recruits, to mixed responses.
"“They’re [Arteta and Edu] are very clear in what they want to do,” he said. “Whether they’re going to be able to do it will be determined by the finance that’s made available by the Kroenke’s and also the ability to attract players.“I know a number of players Arsenal have made proposals to which are very attractive. I think Edu and Arteta are selling an impressive project.“But many of those players have aspirations to play in the Champions League or at worst the Europa League, so they’re not considering those proposals at this point in the summer.”"
He adds that further down the line players’ minds may change if no other moves are secured, thus plans may not come to fruition until the very latter stages of the summer. This is far from ideal. It is also, however, the bed Arsenal made for themselves. An atrocious league season coupled with a limp Europa League exit has led them here and they only have themselves to blame.
There is no mention of the names in question, although recent developments have Emi Buendia ranked highest on the club’s list of playmakers, with Max Aarons also among the options to right-back.
A grueling summer awaits for club and fans alike. Just like Arteta stressed a desire to do business early, he also confessed ‘it’s not going to happen’.
Seeing other clubs, such as Leicester, make their moves quickly with deals all-but tied up before the window even opens could be the first of a number of frustrating distractions as Arsenal rely on numerous factors to get their own deals over the line.
Also a reliance on the KSE ownership to dip their hands into their pockets adds further fear to the hope of numerous transactions, on top of needing to sell and sell well before major movement. Arsenal are still Arsenal in many peoples’ eyes though, and the acceptance that change is demanded is felt throughout the club, meaning the significant overhaul is in full swing. It just might not be a pretty ride.
