2. Jesus Corona – Porto

Two birds with one stone on this one! In need of a right-back for the aforementioned reasons, there are also further concerns from Arteta over the form of Willian. The Brazilian has been dreadful and naturally any sane manager would be fearful over what may come of their team if the 32-year-old persists with such abject performances.

So why not fix both positions at once?

Yet again on their lengthy list, the Mail have coughed up another name. Someone previously of interest to Arsenal is Jesus Corona, who would arrive with the capability of playing both right-back and right-winger. The Gunners are interested and it solves everything, right?

The Mexican has a £21.4m release clause in his contract and just 12 months remaining on his deal, prompting interest from Sevilla and Fiorentina for his services.

Netting three goals and providing 13 assists in 48 appearances in all competitions, his talent is obvious and previous interest from Premier League clubs wouldn’t have been without reason.

It also makes absolutely zero sense for Arsenal to spend over £20m on a South American player with no prior English experience at the age of 28. If you’re wanting an example of how you don’t act in a squad rebuild where homegrown talent is needed, that would be a strong start.

Equally, if Willian leaves he doesn’t need replacing, so buying a winger who can play right-back is up there with the dumbest moves Arsenal could make.
