Arsenal Can Afford Eduardo Camavinga But it’s a Tough Transfer

Looking at the amount in question, €30m is arguably the cut-price fee of the window. Ligue 1 sides are feeling the pinch more than any other clubs on the continent this summer but even with that in mind the fee is staggeringly low.

One of those opportunities not to miss. Or, at least, worth trying for.

Of course, €30m is not where this would end. Factoring in agent fees, wages and length of contract would make this deal far more expensive than the upfront outlay but then it’s a case of getting your money’s worth, which all signs point towards Camavinga being.

Jonathan Barnett, an Arsenal fan, is his agent, too.

That isn’t going to swing the tide in Arsenal’s favour, however. With Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain hovering around the situation, of the three it’s no disrespect to Arsenal to state that the choice wouldn’t be a tough one for Camavinga.

Champions League football will always take precedence and even if he could be sold on the Arsenal project the money the other two sides boast would trump what the Gunners can provide.

As the summer drifts on the list of ‘perfect’ Partey partners grows increasingly long. Manuel Locatelli would be welcomed with open arms and so would Camavinga despite the pair being nothing alike. Arteta and Edu need to decide – you’d like to think they have already – who they want in the heart of midfield to replace Granit Xhaka.

For the manager this is where the style of his team will be shaped around and Camavinga for an absolute steal will surely be considered as someone for that role, even if his skillset differs entirely from the likes of Locatelli and Xhaka.

It’s not a pursuit Arsenal stand much chance in. Jules Kounde links earlier this season were needless since the other sides interested were always ahead of the race and the £55m was, at the time, felt way beyond their means.

A few weeks further down the line and the European football handicap remains, but £25m has to be explored at the very least, regardless of the competition.
