As soon as football finishes somewhere it’s back again elsewhere with Arsenal facing Hibernian in their first pre-season fixture of the summer on Tuesday. It’s an interesting scenario since the matches are around the corner, and yet, no home kit has been launched.

Busy focusing on who is going to be donning whatever variant of red and white, said transfers will need something to wear and so far it’s only the away strip that has been announced.

It’s pretty darn nice, though.

The return of the cannon is a glorious feature and initial reservations of an all yellow strip from top to bottom were quelled when the team wore their snazzy attire in the win over Crystal Palace on the penultimate match of last season’s Premier League. It looked sharp. So did Nicolas Pepe.

And with the heartache of Euro 2020 still set to linger for quite some time for English Arsenal fans, club football returning is most welcome.

As per Charles Watts, Arsenal’s mini tour of Scotland will also include the official reveal of the 2021/22 home kit. Set to be unveiled ‘at the end of the week’, it will be worn for the first time against Rangers on Saturday.

It’s certainly…different.

With kits being leaked so early these days, fans have known what the new home strip will look like for a number of months. It takes inspiration from the three iconic kits between 1998-2002 with white sleeves and side panels with three navy adidas stripes along the shoulders.

The red colour isn’t the darker shade seen in the previous home kit and returns to the colour used in the 2018/19 shirt, but has a distinct ‘Ajax’ feel about it.

Perhaps it’s one of those that will grow on you when it’s seen in action. It isn’t an awful kit by any means, though.

One of the players set to pull it on is Nuno Tavares. The left-back was signed in time to undergo his isolation period in England and still be registered to make the journey north. He is among around 30 players who will head to Edinburgh with Mikel Arteta and could even make his debut on Tuesday against Hibernian.

Albert Sambi Lokonga, however, was a deal not wrapped up in time for the Scottish tour as he is now isolating in London having completed his medical in the Netherlands. Once those ten days have passed Arsenal will announce his signing and then he will link up with the squad for the tour in the United States.
