2. Nuno Tavares Impresses in Arsenal Debut

It’s not actually a debut but we’ll treat it as such for this occasion, largely because Tavares made a strong impression in his first 45 minutes in an Arsenal shirt.

We’ll brush over the handball in the build up….

What we did see from Tavares was encouraging. He is a very direct left-back, as profiled before his arrival, who always looks for the forward option in and out of possession.

Having claimed shooting with his right foot is one of his strengths during his first interview, he proved that with his well-taken goal and it lifted his confidence for the rest of the half. In possession he calmed himself and looked composed down the line, even throwing in a few neat dummies.

Key in his performance was the way he played on the touchline. Kieran Tierney is an expert at that and he was comfortable feeding passes through tight angles and then making underlaps infield where he could drive with possession.

Very, very early days but positive signs so far.
