Arsenal predicted lineup vs Tottenham: Lokonga & White?
Forwards
Nicolas Pepe (RW) – One of the most comforting performances from the defeat to the Blues was that of Pepe. Seeing him return from holiday sharp and fit bodes well for the coming campaign where he will be eager to pick where he left off with scintillating late form.
Pre-season has been encouraging from the Ivorian and with Bukayo Saka set to need a while longer to recover from his Euro 2020 excursions the spot on the right side is his for the time being.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (ST) – While we can bemoan his lack of goal threat all we want, the captain hasn’t looked entirely rubbish so far this summer and just needs a goal to kick him into gear. We hope so, anyway.
What Arteta is doing is pleasing, however. Even at the end of last season he kept selecting Aubameyang at centre-forward and even with his goal drought is continuing to do so. That trust is welcome and nothing like that given to Willian.
Willian (LW) – It’s a toss up between Lacazette and Willian getting the nod here but the likelihood is for the Frenchman to come on an play at No. 9 once Aubameyang is taken off.
Therefore, with Eddie Nketiah injured, it could be the former Blue who takes his place in the lineup as he is the more likely of the available options to feature on the opening day. Folarin Balogun would be preferable, mind you.
