Arsenal Propose Bellerin Swap For Emerson Royal and Kieran Trippier

What creative means could Arsenal opt for in order to satisfy their desire to both move Bellerin on and secure a replacement? Why, a swap, of course.

The first one is a right-back that has been linked with a move to north London since earlier in the year, but went cold after it became clear how troublesome the club were having it selling this window.

Emerson Royal is now a Barcelona player after he made the switch from Real Betis to Camp Nou in a deal that was a part ownership scheme with the two sides. Ronald Koeman’s side already boast Sergino Dest, however, and Emerson will struggle for minutes ahead of the American, thus movement is possible.

The Brazilian is someone who isn’t overly attacking in approach, which would complement Kieran Tierney on the left flank, and who has the technical security to tuck into midfield and allow the forward players to adopt multiple lanes of attack in the build up. Defensively his numbers are superb, he has strong physical capabilities and at 22 years of age would arrive with his best days ahead of him.

While it’s mentioned that discussions are not at an advanced stage and these are just early conversations being had, it’s a swap that suits Arsenal excellently.

Kieran Trippier, however, is an odd one. Again, nothing is advanced but this is another move plotted by Arsenal to find a way to move Bellerin on and also aid their rebuild.

Manchester United were pushing to bring Trippier in as an experienced cover, although for Arsenal it would surely be as first choice. With a wicked cross and dead ball delivery, the England international’s knowledge of the Premier League and defensive security would be an asset.

That’s about as far as it goes. The former Tottenham man is 30 going on 31 years old and would be an addition that abandons the otherwise clear transfer strategy the club has in place this summer. It would be another big salary deal for someone who will naturally decline and eventually be moved on for nothing, likely playing his deal down. It would be a backwards step.

This whole saga is another fine example of how grueling this summer has been, and will continue to be. A swap deal could absolutely suit Arsenal but with the clock ticking you wonder how many more players in the squad will have to find alternate solutions to deciding their futures as the Gunners’ financial demands continue to require reassessment.

Emerson in return would be a good move, though.
