2. Unai Emery takes over Arsenal after 22 years under Arsene Wenger
It was never going to be easy for whoever replaced Arsene Wenger. The club had already begun its slide from the top four when Unai Emery was appointed Arsenal’s new manager.
Like this year, the Gunners were dealt a tough start to the season with Manchester City visiting the Emirates followed by a trip to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They lost both matches, 2-0 and 3-2, respectively.
Emery picked up his first win as Arsenal manager on matchday three as his side defeated West Ham 3-1.
The Gunners ended September fifth in the table with 15 points. In the end, Emery’s first season as Arsenal manager ended with a fifth-place finish.
Emery has become the Europa League king and in 2019 he took the Gunners to the final of the competition. Unfortunately, they lost 4-1 to Chelsea in Baku.
