Arsenal Eye January Midfield Reinforcements With Oxlade-Chamberlain

With Granit Xhaka out for the remainder of the calendar year and with both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny jetting off to AFCON in January, there is a genuine possibility of the Gunners making a move for a midfielder in the winter.

A horrible window to deal with at the best of times, Stop Gap FC might strike again. It’s stated that Arteta would look to bring his former teammate back on an initial six-month loan deal with the possibility of making the move permanent at the end of the season.

Of all the midfielders to choose from across Europe, many of whom could be valuable additions to come in and be integral figures for not just this season but those to come, is Oxlade-Chamberlain really that guy?

Desperately out of form and perennially injured, it’s a move that feels like an accident waiting to happen. Building a youthful side with wholesale changes across the summer, it’s as if Arteta is preparing one big reunion of his former teammates for a special episode of the Amazon All or Nothing series.

‘Part 6: The Gang Get Back Together’

It all sounds a touch silly. Well, a bit more than that.

With a strategy in place to change the face of this team and construct a squad that will grow together and potentially peak in unison, while there is definite place for a more experienced head in there, why that person would be Oxlade-Chamberlain is anyone’s guess. There is no connecting those dots.

Were he fully fit and injury-free it would still not fall in line with the angle of the recent recruitment, just like Wilshere and Ramsey. Secondly, nobody can really tell whether he still has the quality to be playing regular Premier League football since…you know, he has barely played any Premier League football for the past year. How much time would he need to get back to his best form? Far too long, you’d imagine.

dark. Next. 3 players exceeding expectations

Lovely bloke and a top performer for Arsenal, this one gets a two letter answer.
