Mr. Full-back/wing-back for Emery during the 2018/19 season, Ainsley Maitland-Niles played the full 90 minutes in the final six matches of the Gunners’ ill-fated Europa League campaign in the right wing-back slot in the Spaniard’s 3-4-3 shape.

Injury prevented him from featuring more in the Premier League but when fit he was still given plenty of minutes, almost always on the right and never in the middle.

There was a large degree of confidence shown in Maitland-Niles from Emery and that trust was carried through into the start of the following campaign where he was the first choice right-back.

For someone who is a member of the current squad but not a regular starter, however the current season pans out it seems unlikely that Maitland-Niles will remain in north London beyond the summer.

He is featuring in his favoured central midfield slot, albeit exclusively from the bench, and if an offer were to come in over the winter it’s something Arsenal would certainly consider as they could shift attentions to bringing someone else to the club.

A slightly more exciting and progressive midfielder, the 24-year-old could link up with his former teammate and long-time friend Joe Willock. Heck, he’d do a job until Newcastle start trying for the Joshua Kimmich’s of this world.
