Arsenal have been enjoying the fruits of past labour in the Premier League of late with the respective performances of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette coming as a pleasant surprise.

It’s not a surprise that they’re playing well, but instead that they’re playing well together without one drifting off to the left in a back three system. A partnership that Arsenal are profiting on with impressive wins over Aston Villa and Leicester, it’s also one that won’t be around for long.

As well as he’s playing there is little chance of Lacazette staying beyond his current deal, and Aubameyang’s deal signed back in September 2020 was always with an eye on being his final at the club.

The striker hunt is well and truly on with the upcoming summer set to be the key point in the timeline for a new arrival to come in. It’s highly unlikely anything will take place in the tricky winter window, unless some surprises are sprung with Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah. Still, very improbable.

Arsenal target Alexander Isak drops big future hint with Real Sociedad revealing he would like to make Premier League transfer move in his career

Folarin Balogun looks set to see out the current campaign either with the Under-23 side or out on loan, and even if he’s ready for more first team involvement next season another body will be needed alongside him and the then 33-year-old Aubameyang.

One of the names that has been linked with Arsenal over the past 12 months is Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker is a majestic blend of technical craft, penalty box prowess, off the ball endeavour and threat in behind. He is the archetypal modern striker. And, speaking to The Independent, he’s admitted where he’d like to end up next.

"“I’m in a good place at the moment, I’m very happy, but one day it would be nice to play in England as well,” he said. “They have six or seven of the biggest clubs in the world, it’s a very high level, and of course one day it would be an alternative.“Every player wants to be the best version of themselves and reach the highest possible level. I have expectations for myself that I’m trying to fulfil, so we’ll see where the journey takes me in future.”"

Someone The Athletic stated Arsenal had been very interested in, looking far ahead at any possible move, most of the other clubs in the Premier League are well stocked at centre-forward: Chelsea bought Lukaku, Liverpool have Firmino and Jota, Man United have Ronaldo, Spurs have Kane and Man City have their eyes on Haaland.

Plenty of projection there, but it’s an interesting point as the Swede continues to impress at Real Sociedad and on the international stage: his npxG per 90 of 0.54 and high volume of high quality shots (0.18 xG per shot) are both 85+ percentile worthy and he’s just 22 years old. His numbers keep growing and his form keeps climbing.

Just a shame about that new contract running until 2026 and a rumoured buyout clause of £60m, eh? Arsenal’s interest is unlikely to have quelled as Isak continues to impress, and with a profile so suited to what the club are in need of, the rumours will continue to swirl.
