Arsenal fans haven’t been this emotionally attached to the group of players they support for quite some time. That isn’t to say other squads have been unlikeable, they’ve just not come close to being as likeable as this lot.

Squad building is more than just signing quality. Those brought in have to suit the philosophy, believe in unity and bond as a team, on the pitch at least.

The side Mikel Arteta has helped assemble is a fantastic blend of all those traits, with the added bonus of them being a half decent set of footballers.

Up to fifth in the Premier League table after a 1-0 win over Watford, the seven-match unbeaten streak in the league has been built off the back of five clean sheets, which is a credit to the work of the new look back five.

Aaron Ramsdale reveals hilarious Benjamin White claim about wanting to punch the Arsenal goalkeeper every time he makes a save

Key among them is Aaron Ramsdale, who is yet to taste defeat as an Arsenal player. Exceptional in goal, he’s formed solid partnerships with all his defenders, including Benjamin White, who he has known from his youth days.

The passion and commitment on show from the whole defence has been glorious to watch, and speaking on the Tubes and Ange YouTube channel, Ramsdale explained in hilarious detail just how dedicated White is to keeping a clean sheet.

"“Ben White and Gabriel and Tomiyasu or KT or Nuno [Tavares], whenever they’re playing, we actually really enjoy defending,” the 23-year-old said. “I think you see when we make blocks or saves, we are all together and we are fist-bumping.“Ben said to me in the middle of the game, ‘When you make a save, I just want to punch you in the face!’“Me and Ben have known each other for a long time and I think because the ball got cleared and no one sort of came and celebrated I was just like calm down a little bit.”"

That funny anecdote aside, as Ramsdale said, this is a group of players who love defending. They enjoy the art and relish their job roles.

That all comes across in the performances and one of the reasons behind the fans adoring this set of players is it’s clear that they are as invested in the cause as they are. How this group conducts themselves and how they transmit that on to the supporters has helped sculpt the togetherness that has been prevalent throughout the season.

White wanting to punch his goalkeeper out of sheer elation for making a save is testament to that.

In the video Ramsdale also discussed his antics on the pitch and the abuse he gets from fans, stating that he loves the constant heckling and even joins in with the songs sung about him.
