Anyone noticing a trend as Arsenal build up towards the January transfer window? In regards to players and their positions it’s fairly straightforward that strikers and midfielders are on the agenda, but there does appear to be a common denominator in many of the recent links.

Serie A.

Arsenal, who have a history of signing their fair share of decent footballers from Italy, haven’t done so with great success over the past two decades. The Torreira’s and Viviano’s of this world were finally seen to with the success of Takehiro Tomiyasu, but otherwise it’s back to the Vieira’s, Bergkamp’s, Kanu’s and Henry’s for anything memorable.

Of late we’re seeing links to Dusan Vlahovic and Mattias Svanberg, with the latest name to crop up from Italy being that of Dejan Kulusevski.

Sky’s Gianluca Di Marzio, who first broke the Vlahovic news only to follow it up by stating that the player has zero interest in moving to Arsenal, has reported that a ‘first inquiry’ has been made from the Gunners in Juventus’ direction.

Only making two starts in the league this season, the lack of minutes in a struggling Juventus side have sparked heavy speculation of a move away from Turin for the 21-year-old.

"“Patience. This is a fantastic challenge. I love to play, and I do not like to sit on the bench. We will see how it goes,” the Swede told Fotbollskanalen. “It is good that there are clubs (who are interested), because if it does not work in one place then maybe it works in another place.”"

He won’t have helped himself making those comments. Massimiliano Allegri has reverted to a two man strike force of late with Kulusevski not slotting in to his thinking, and while the aforementioned report states only a basic inquiry being made by Arsenal, other talk coming out of Italy adds that the forward could be on the move as soon as January.

Tutto Juve add that a sale is in I Bianconeri’s mind with Atletico Madrid and Tottenham also expressing an interest, and if the club could accrue around €35m (£29.9m) for Kulusevski it would help them fund a big-money move for Vlahovic.

Someone who burst onto the scene at the Allianz Stadium in the 2019/20 season with ten goals and nine assists for Parma in Serie A, Kulusevski struggled in the following campaign at Juve when he was used in a mountain of different positions from central midfield, to winger, to striker.

Clearly boasting bags of ability, is he someone that would fit in at Arsenal?
