Arsenal will be looking to bounce back straight away from their 4-0 humbling away at Anfield as they host Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday. Here is the match preview.

Is Liverpool out of the system yet? While some supporters may still be stomaching the defeat, Mikel Arteta and his team have other more pressing matters on their mind at the Emirates Stadium.

Since being battered by Manchester City, the Gunners had not tasted defeat until last time out so how they respond to this bump in the road is perhaps more important than how they performed on Merseyside.

The fixture they’ve been dished up to react to that setback is the only team left in the Premier League without a win this season, at home. If there is a more inviting game available for Arsenal to banish their Anfield demons then it isn’t making itself known.

Newcastle are in a rut and staring, from a distance, down the barrel of a (hilarious) relegation to the Championship having completed their highly controversial takeover to become the club with the richest owners in world football by a mile.

Of course, we’re only 12 games in and despite not picking up three points this season the Magpies are also only five points from safety, so it’s too early to jump to conclusions. They’ve also gone and got themselves a new manager in the dugout, although Eddie Howe tested positive for COVID-19 prior to what would have been his first game as he had to watch from home as his new side drew 3-3 with Brentford.

Due to rules on isolation, he will not be available for the weekend either, with his assistant Jason Tindall set to take dugout duties once again.

While Newcastle’s season won’t be defined by results away at Arsenal, their position in the league table and desperation for points also offers that niggling doubt that a team playing without fear could spring an upset.

It certainly would be a turn up for the books, although it’s not like they can’t score goals. Indeed, they’ve found the back of the net more times than Arsenal this season. How bad is that?

Well, what better chance to reset the course than Saturday? Should be a cracking game.
