When clubs like Manchester City are keeping tabs on your players, it can be taken two ways. In a season that is not going quite to plan for Arsenal, one of Mikel Arteta’s men is attracting such interest.

Either it can be considered as a positive due to it meaning your player is impressing in his role, or it’s the source of unavoidable PTSD as Arsenal have a history of losing their best assets to the richer clubs more involved in trophy hunts during the Emirates era.

Fortunately on this occasion, it’s not Bukayo Saka.

As per ESPN, Pep Guardiola’s side are monitoring the progress of Nuno Tavares as they seek solutions to what could become a slight concern at left-back.

There is only one senior recognised option in the squad in Oleksandr Zinchenko, and he is someone who has been gradually converted into the position having joined the club as a midfielder in 2016.

The majority of the minutes this season have been handed to Joao Cancelo, a natural right-back, who continues to stake a very valid claim for being the best full-back in world football. It’s not even an exaggeration, he is just outrageous in every department and to be doing so on the opposite flank heightens his brilliance.

Benjamin Mendy has been suspended by the club and Zinchenko could be set for a move elsewhere if the minutes keep being taken by Cancelo, thus strengthening in that department has led the club to Nuno.

Still very raw in his ability and settling in to the Premier League, the 21-year-old’s performances have still come as a pleasant surprise after it was widely thought he would feature invariably on the occasions where Kieran Tierney would be rested.

Wrestling his way into the starting lineup under Arteta and only moving back onto the bench in the recent 2-1 defeat to Everton, the competition in that position at Arsenal is hotly contested. His displays have drawn the attention of the reigning Premier League champions and while there is no word on any further action on their scouting, it can only be reassuring that a team of that quality would be interested in a potential move.

A very clever pick-up from the club for £8m over the summer, that shrewd bit of business is one that the Gunners will be looking to hold on to for as long as possible. If the standard City blowout on defenders were to arrive though, would anyone seriously turn down £40m or so?

At this stage it’s merely scouting work being done but, for the time being, it’s encouraging that clubs of their European stature are taking a keen interest in the performances of someone who only has 13 appearances in red and white to his name.
