Arsenal are gearing up towards the January transfer window with speculation rife regarding both players joining the club as well as those tipped to depart.

It is the latter category which is most likely to take centre stage in January, with fringe players in the squad either being moved on due to their contract situations or allowed to leave on loan in search of minutes.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the main player of discussion as his continued omission from the rest of the first team following him being stripped of the captaincy could lead to a premature exit. Eddie Nketiah is another striker whose future is uncertain.

How about those who are already set to leave the club?

Arsenal could land €10m transfer injection on forgotten man Konstantinos Mavropanos with Newcastle & Borussia Dortmund keen on deal

Arsenal have two players out on loan this season who are on deals that, barring some eventualities, are to make their temporary switches permanent at the end of the season: Matteo Guendouzi and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The latter of those is on loan at Stuttgart this season and should the German club avoid relegation – they currently occupy the relegation play-off spot as they sit 16th in the Bundesliga – then they will be obliged to sign the central defender for a fee believed to be around €7m.

Should they be relegated to the second tier they will instead have the option to sign him.

Mavropanos has been the shining light for Stuttgart this term. Attracting a growing fanbase with some excellent displays in the heart of defence, including four goals in 15 outings, interest is ramping up across Europe for his signature.

Knowing they could earn a huge profit on him were they to land him permanently, SPORTBild (via SportWitness) report that the German side have now upped their valuation from €25m to €30m. Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle have both been heavily linked with a move.

Where there is some uncertainty is whether anything can be concluded in the January window. It isn’t known if Arsenal can fast-track his sale or not due to the contractual situation. Currently, injury will rule him out of action until mid-January.

However, if he is to be signed in the summer and then sold on for the aforementioned fee, Arsenal could be set to pocket around €10m in the process. €7m of that will arrive from the initial sale, with the rest coming from the sell-on clause inserted into his deal which it said to hover around the 10% mark.

Conversely, if Stuttgart do fall foul to relegation and then can’t afford to sign him, Arsenal will have plenty of suitors available to earn a far more enticing payment. If you’re Stuttgart though, you pay that money regardless and then take the earnings after that.

What is certain among all this is that Arsenal have let a hugely talented centre-back leave, whose performances have been impressive enough to garner interest from Champions League sides.

But, whatever the outcome, there is some money heading the Gunners’ way.
