Arsenal eye stunning Youri Tielemans transfer swoop
Arsenal and their hunt for a midfielder this summer has sent them far and wide, as far as the rumours are concerned, but perhaps the solution to their predicament is closer to home than thought.
Aiming to do business quickly this January with Mikel Arteta currently dealing with a threadbare midfield, their pursuit has taken them to Turin where a loan deal is edging ever closer to being finalised for Arthur Melo.
The Brazilian would join until the end of the season to cover for the Gunners’ current deficiencies – and could even spark a January exit for Mohamed Elneny who is wanted in Turkey.
How about beyond that?
Arsenal eye stunning Youri Tielemans transfer swoop in summer window with Leicester midfielder in final 18 months of current deal
As per Goal’s Charles Watts, Arsenal are highly interested in the Belgium midfielder and have already held talks with his agent. Discussions were had at London Colney in recent weeks to explore the possibility of a stunning move for a Premier League rival’s star player, although any deal looks set to be rekindled in the summer.
Clubs across the continent are positioning themselves to swoop for the 24-year-old at the end of the season, with Leicester understandably unwilling to sell the player mid-campaign when they are competing for the top six positions and a Europa Conference League title.
With Tielemans entering the last 18 months of his contract and not expected to sign an extension, it will make for an almighty scramble in the summer for a Premier League proven player with exceptional qualities.
The Foxes will continue trying to convince Tielemans to sign a new deal, yet should they fail, he will be certain to leave with Brendan Rodgers side not wanting to lose him for free. Arsenal are desperate to be in the transfer mix come that point. Offering Champions League football would do wonders for their cause.
Is he someone that Arsenal should be after? Without a doubt. At the right age, with experience of the division, this is a creative and goalscoring midfielder with one of the more complete profiles in the English game. Press resistant, technical, progressive and silky, why Monaco let him go in the first place back in 2019 is anyone’s guess.
Not looking like happening this window, in the summer he would be welcome with open arms. With a year left on his deal at that stage, he wouldn’t break the bank either. The hurdle is, of course, that there are countless other clubs who feel likewise.
From Arsenal’s point of view though: yes, yes and yes.
