Arsenal is on the up, and that is easy to see no matter how in tune or unaware one is regarding football. The team is full of young players who are buying into and evolving in the system that boss Mikel Arteta has created for them, and the team’s position on the league table, fifth with two games in hand on West Ham, is a positive showing at this point in the season.

The way they fought with ten men against Liverpool in the first leg 0-0 draw was truly special as far as stalemates go, and should invigorate Gooners the world over to witness.

Yet with an important North London Derby postponed, and Tottenham just two and four points behind Arsenal and West Ham respectively, with two and four matches in hand on each, Arsenal need reinforcements for the stretch run of matches to come after January.

There have been rumors and whispers for weeks of course, and names like Dusan Vlahovic, Arthur Melo, Yves Bissouma, Youri Tielemans, and Georginio Wijnaldum have all been included in the discussion. These players would help this team across the spectrum. While the defensive side has some real stability in front of Aaron Ramsdale, the midfield and striking options need to be refined and improved upon, in skill and depth.

Arsenal are trying to make some noise with Dusan Vlahovic and Arthur Melo deals in January transfer window – they need them

Arsenal are close to making some real noise in the Premier League for years to come, and have the chance at winning the Carabao Cup this year if they can overcome Liverpool in the second leg of their semi-final. Therefore, getting some new players in might help in achieving the team’s ambitions in the months to come.

For Arteta and Edu, it will all be a matter of perspective and taste in the transfer market, as there are pieces available even with a limited budget. Arthur Melo and Aaron Ramsey could prove useful to the boss, in very different ways of course, and while the former could be a player that this team gets the best out of for years to come, Ramsey is likely just a throwback who could provide a different, and expensive, answer to whatever question might be presented to us in a match.

At the attacking and holding or defensive midfield positions, these are not bad options, and yet names like Bissouma and Wijnaldum might really set the red parts of north London on fire – if they can be afforded. A combination of these names is possible too, and Tielemans should be a name to watch for in the market too, as he would be a fantastic creative addition to this Gunners squad.

While Leicester would miss him, they are not playing too well this season and might look to have more money come the summer window so as to re-calibrate and adjust for the upcoming campaign.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang effectively banished from the club, in a manner reminiscent of Mesut Ozil, and Folarin Balogun on loan to Middlesborough with both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah set to leave as free transfers this summer, I would imagine that the brain trust at Arsenal are desperately seeing what they might do regarding Dusan Vlahovic.

That signing alone would be an absolute coup of a deal, and one that would give Arsenal a clear edge in the years to come with young players at every level of the pitch, poised to grow better together in the many matches ahead. Say what you want about the apparent sluggishness of the transfer dealings so far, but Arsenal are going for the top end of the market and willing to pay a premium to do so.

They’re making noise this January.

Yet while the team is determined to make this Vlahovic happen, and have freed up some players to foot the bill, completing the deal would be a possibly monumental turn for Arsenal in the Premier League.

dark. Next. Predicted lineup vs Liverpool

A combination of him and someone like Arthur, who might only cost wages in a nuanced sort of loan deal with Juventus, could really give this team greater depth and skill to complete their return back to European football which needs to be slated for next year.
