As the dust settles on Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Burnley, all attention is shifted towards what Arsenal can get done in the January transfer window. Its importance is amplified.

While the clock is ticking on what can be completed before the January 31 deadline, there have been no such issues in getting players moved on.

Sead Kolasinac had his contract terminated – the fifth such move in a year – Pablo Mari joined Udinese on loan, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has gone to Roma and Folarin Balogun completed a temporary switch to Middlesbrough. Arsenal have been busy on that front.

More is expected in the academy groups as well, with Miguel Azeez, for example, being recalled from his loan at Portsmouth ahead of another temporary switch. However, another player who did so in January, Tyreece John-Jules, has his next loan almost wrapped up.

Arsenal set to complete key striker loan transfer with Tyreece John-Jules set for loan move to Darren Moore’s Sheffield Wednesday

Picked up by Championship side Blackpool in the summer, John-Jules had found game time easy to come by in the early stages of the season despite the striker no finding the back of the net, but as is so common with loan players in the second tier, managers tend to fall back on their tried and trusted.

He needed to play and that prompted the recall, with his next destination set to be Sheffield Wednesday. As noted by the Sheffield Star, and elsewhere, the 20-year-old has shunned the advances of other Championship outfits to link up with the League One side, in a clever move for all parties. The deal should be completed within the next ’48 hours’.

Darren Moore is the manager of the Owls and it was under this boss where John-Jules had his most prolific spell at Doncaster last season.

A string of lengthy injuries dampened his time in south Yorkshire, but he still managed to clock up an impressive tally of five goals and three assists in minutes that worked out at around 13 full 90’s.

The Owls are still in the hunt for promotion from League One this season but only two sides in the top half have scored fewer than their tally of 36, and firepower at the top end of the pitch is essential for their aspirations.

This is a key stage of John-Jules’ career and finding some form in front of goal, even if it is a lower level than the first half of the campaign, is precisely what he needs. Rekindling his relationship with Moore is the best decision he can take, and with his injury issues looking like they’re behind him for the moment, it’s a transfer that suits all.
