Arsenal have taken everyone by surprise this window on a number of occasions, with deadline day proving no different as they secure their second signing of the window.

Matt Turner hasn’t been officially confirmed by Arsenal yet, but he is due to join the club in the summer to act as Aaron Ramsdale’s understudy. Other than that, it’s been very quiet.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s impending move to Barcelona is the main talk of the window, with that dramatic transfer stealing all the headlines, although fans are still pining for a new arrival.

They’ve got one, even if he isn’t the elusive centre-forward everyone will have been hoping for.

Arsenal confirm surprise second January transfer signing with Colorado Rapids central defender joining before being loaned back to MLS side

As confirmed by MLS side Colorado Rapids and Arsenal, the Gunners have sewn up a move for central defender Auston Trusty.

"A statement read: “The Colorado Rapids have reached an agreement with English Premier League side Arsenal FC for the transfer of defender Auston Trusty, the club announced today. Trusty will remain with the Rapids on loan before departing for Europe on July 17.“Auston is coming off an exceptional season in 2021 in which he played a vital role in helping us finish atop the Western Conference for the first time in our history,” said Pádraig Smith, Colorado Rapids Executive VP & General Manager."

The 23-year-old, like Turner, will link up with his new teammates in the summer after spending the remainder of the English season on loan with Rapids, in a move that has strong connections to the KSE ownership due to them also owning the MLS side.

As per James McNicholas, this deal for Trusty is seen more as a way to deepen the club’s connections in USA, like extending scouting networks, as opposed to squad building.

"A statement from Arsenal added: “Trusty, 23, will stay with the Colorado Rapids until at least the end of the Premier League season in May. The intention then is to loan him in Europe for the 2022/23 season to further progress his development.”"

So, no Trusty anytime soon in Arsenal red and white. However, the American link grows in north London with the second USA international making the move over the pond to join Arsenal.
