Arsenal: 5 forwards in line for summer departures

4. Nicolas Pepe

One of if not the biggest winner of the January transfer window was Nicolas Pepe, who will now play an important role in the squad for the rest of the season.

For all his numerous flaws he still contributes at the right end of the pitch, and with goal-shy strikers Arteta has to find a way to incorporate him into his team in these final 17 matches. He has to get a tune out of Pepe. It’s so important.

Beyond that, though, it’s very clear to all involved that Arteta does not fancy this player. Right from the off it’s been plain to see he has preferences for more technically secure wide forwards who can keep moving the ball, whereas Pepe’s best attributes come in transitional, counter-attacking moments.

When the summer comes around he’ll be into that fabled two-year zone, where sell or renew are the two primary options.

The question is, will anyone want him? And, more importantly, will anyone want to pay what Arsenal want for him?

Estimated outcome: He’ll stay around and probably see out his contract…
