Arsenal eye summer transfer move for Chelsea striker
Watching Alexandre Lacazette spurn his chances against Wolves had Arsenal supporters once again fearing the worst. The strikers taking their limited opportunities when they come is going to be imperative if the club are to seal a top four spot this term.
The captain had four shots in the game with just one finding the target, an effort straight at Jose Sa after some fine work in the box by Bukayo Saka. For the remaining 16 matches there might be more of the same for Mikel Arteta’s side, who have no choice but to believe in what they have to see the season out.
When the summer does come around and both Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah depart, Arsenal will look to invest in their striker department. But not just with one addition, they’ll doubtlessly need two.
One of those will be the marquee addition. The striker who will move the needle and elevate the starting lineup closer towards its potential. But both those who arrive can’t be world beaters. Arsenal can’t nip to the shop and sign two Alexander Isak’s.
Arsenal eye summer transfer move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja after fine season with Southampton in the Premier League
The latter of those strikers is someone fans would have liked to bring in during the January window. Unfortunately they either weren’t available or were not at the right stages of their careers, and has been the case throughout, if they’re not on their list of players then Arsenal will not delve into their pockets.
In terms of the striker Arsenal may need to bring in who is a level below their marquee addition, Armando Broja in enjoying a fine debut season in the Premier League with Southampton. The Cobham graduate penned a new long-term contract with Chelsea until at least the summer of 2026 at the beginning of the season before being sent out on loan to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side for the the entirety of 2021/22.
He’s now netted eight goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Saints, forging an increasingly impressive partnership with Che Adams up front and attracting admiring glances from across Europe. Southampton, for example, did their best to sign him permanently in January.
Arsenal didn’t go that far, but football.london report that Arteta and co are monitoring the 20-year-old as they prepare to bolster their attacking departments in the close season.
Indeed, once again, Arsenal are being linked with a player from Chelsea. It’s like an obsession. No matter what position on the pitch or where the two respective clubs are in the table, somehow the north london gaze is always directed westward.
But if we’re looking at Broja the Albanian international and not Broja the Blue from Chelsea, is there anything to like? Absolutely.
