While Arsenal may be firmly focused on tackling each game as it comes in the Premier League, there are still areas to consider once the season concludes.

Key among them is new signings. Everyone can practically select the starting lineup for league matches this season without so much as a second’s hesitancy, with Mikel Arteta streamlining his team over January and having clear standouts in each position.

What breeds excitement is the areas that can be upgraded, namely central midfield and centre-forward.

Then there are those that are cemented into the ground. They pick themselves and if you asked the supporters for any player in world football to play ahead of them you’d get only a smattering of answers other than ‘nobody’.

Arsenal offered encouraging Bukayo Saka future update as Mikel Arteta and co prepare new contract amid Liverpool & Man City interest

Tying Bukyo Saka down to a new deal is essential. Contracts to existing stars are more important than anything else, and he is chief among them. His current deal will have two years left to run at the end of the season, thus it’s no surprise at all to hear talk of a deal being prepared for the summer.

Equally, there are some growing murmurs of interest from Liverpool and elsewhere, which anyone would expect for an exceptional talent like him. The level he’s hit at the age of 20 years old never stops being remarkable. Fortunately, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has reassured Arsenal fans.

"“I wanted to say one thing about Bukayo Saka because it’s normal to have a lot of rumours on Saka,” Romano told the Here We Go podcast. “This boy is doing incredible. I think sometimes he’s underrated in the press, but he’s a special talent“The player loves Arsenal, and at the moment, he’s not planning for something different.“Contract talks won’t take place now. It’s not in February, it’s not in March, they will discuss maybe end of the season. But Arsenal are, of course, happy with him, and he is happy with them. So I don’t see any problem.”"

Nor should anyone.

Naturally there some concerns of Saka’s future. This is a young man who deserves to be competing at the highest level, and if Arsenal miss out on the top four and Champions League football this season there is talk of him seeking a move elsewhere.

Call them famous last words, but Saka will sign a new deal. Romano’s words are reassuring but they’re thoughts that it is hard not to share.

Saka has been with Arsenal all his life. It’s his home. The amount he’s developed in such a short space of time has been remarkable and the environment is ideal for him to continue improving every day.

Of course missing out on Champions League football would be a blow, but it’s important to remember how young he is. He could sign a new five-year deal for Arsenal and if the club are still nowhere near the upper echelon then he can leave in a few years’ time with his whole career still ahead of him.

Perhaps it is over confidence. Perhaps it is blind faith. But it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Saka doesn’t put pen to paper in the summer.
