Arsenal vs Wolves: 4 things we need to see from Arteta’s side
4. A Fast Start With a Goal to Show For it
Wolves are one of only three sides in the Football League with a 100% away record in 2022, with one of the other sides being Arsenal. Based on away form only, they have the fifth best record in the Premier League this season.
That’s ominous.
But Arsenal also have a very strong home record – the third best in the league – and come up against a side who have still only claimed three points from losing positions in 2021/22. They all came in a 3-2 comeback win over Aston Villa. Coincidentally, only Arsenal (1) have accrued fewer points from losing positions.
In other words, score first and you’ve got a fabulous foundation to beat Wolves. And vice versa, unfortunately.
A fast start against Lage’s side, one that is energised by the home crowd, is what Arsenal need to come up with on Thursday. Getting at Wolves early, unsettling them, and raising the noise levels followed by a goal will put Arsenal in a fine position to secure all the spoils.
Wolves are a dangerously efficient side who only lack the cutting edge up front. That’s it. With the returning Pedro Neto they may just find that, so while he still gains match sharpness Arsenal have to hit their opponents in a way they rarely ever recover from.
