Arsenal Team News vs Newcastle – Gabriel and Benjamin White Concerns

It all unraveled dreadfully for Arsenal on Thursday. There are 3-0 defeats, and then there are those 3-0 defeats.

One player who is certain to miss out on Monday is Rob Holding. The central defender was hot-headed from the first whistle and the aggression he showed on Son crossed the line under the referee’s eye. His two yellow cards and a subsequent sending off will see him suspended for this game.

How well timed, then, that Gabriel could no longer continue having suffered an apparent muscular injury on the back of his thigh. It looks like being a hamstring problem and, given how he left the field of play, it would be a miracle if he was to play again this season.

Completing the defensive crisis is Benjamin White. Arteta made the right call not to bring him on after Holding’s booking, with the second goal coming moments later and seeming to end the game as a contest, although he did get up initially to come on.

Having not trained it was clear that he wasn’t entirely ready, but additional rest before Monday should see him back fit in time.

As for the hosts they welcomed backed long-term absentees Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson in their most recent outing and the pair could make starts in this one, along with Fabian Schar.

Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis, Isaac Hayden and Joe Willock remain absent for Howe’s side.
