Arsenal’s Premier League campaign ended with the club improving on last season’s eighth-placed finish, winning more games, and ultimately, playing better football.
After a horror start to the campaign, the Gunners clicked into gear, but inconsistencies cost them a chance to play in the Champions League.
Heading into the offseason, Arsenal have given themselves a platform to build on. While there were inconsistencies, there were also some incredible moments. The back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Manchester United, pushing both Liverpool and Manchester City, and seeing the growth among the club’s core of younger talent.
A team’s league season can be picked apart and dissected by moments that happen or don’t happen, and more often than not, they can be defining moments in a campaign.
6 moments that defined Arsenal’s 2021/22 season
For Arsenal, six moments defined the 2021/22 Premier League season, for better and for worse.
1. Arsenal’s first win of the season v Norwich
The start to the season couldn’t have gone worse. Arsenal lost three straight, failed to score a single goal, and was rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta’s job was on the line (again).
Then came Norwich at the Emirates. It was a chance for the team to get its season back on track and gain some momentum. Whether by a solitary goal or four, a win was all that mattered.
Thirty shots to ten and a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike was enough to finally get the club’s first win of the year at the fourth time of asking.
That then set the wheels in motion for Arsenal, as they would go on a ten-game unbeaten in all competitions, a run that included eight wins before a 4-0 humbling to Liverpool. The Norwich result kick-started the Gunners’ season.
