3 Arsenal players called up to England squad for Nations League fixtures
By Adam Schultz
Three Arsenal players find themselves in the England squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Hungary, Germany, and Italy.
Aaron Ramsdale, Benjamin White, and Bukayo Saka were all selected to take part for England after standout seasons for the Gunners.
The team will assemble on May 30 as they prepare for the first game against Hungary at the Puskas Arena on June 4. The next clash will be in Munich on June 7 when the Three Lions face Germany.
A game on home soil at Wolves’ home ground, Molineux, then arrives as they tackle Italy on June 11. Three days later, England face Hungary again, at the same venue.
Great Arsenal seasons see 3 players selected for national duty
Aaron Ramsdale has been in great form for Arsenal this season, even if he did lose it a touch towards the back end of the campaign.
At the start of his tenure in north London, the shot-stopper was not a fan favourite, with many turning their noses up at his acquisition. But he quickly won over the hearts and minds of supporters.
His enthusiasm and flair for the spectacular save made him a home run for the Gunners faithful. He was seen as England’s number one during the season, but a poor ending likely sees Jordan Pickford – who was key in Everton staying up – keep the number one shirt.
Benjamin White was another whom many thought wasn’t the best signing for an Arsenal defence that was often called soft; how wrong they were!
One could argue that White has been Arsenal’s best defender during the 2021/22 season, with his absence dearly felt towards the end of the season.
His calmness, supreme passing range, and defensive nous made him the perfect partner for Gabriel in the heart of Arsenal’s defence. His signing was perhaps Mikel Arteta’s best, and now his excellent form for the Gunners has been rewarded.
Lastly is Bukayo Saka, Arsenal’s star boy. His inclusion speaks for itself, as he has firmly cemented his spot in Southgate’s side for years to come.
The 20-year-old star played every Premier League game for Mikel Arteta, netting 11 times and assisting another seven as he persistently terrorised opposing defences.
Seemingly over his now-infamous penalty miss for England in the Euro 2020 Final against Italy, the winger has further solidified his spot in Arsenal’s team and gets another chance to represent his country.
We wish all players the very best this summer!
