Mohamed Elneny has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal with an option for another year after impressing during the second half of the 2021/22 season.
The Egyptian has extended his stay in north London, the club has confirmed. After being in the wilderness during the start of the league campaign, Elneny got his chance in the first team after Thomas Partey again went down with an injury.
The 29-year-old was a staple of the Arsenal side that nearly clinched Champions League football, and it is clear how highly regarded he is among the higher-ups at the club.
His ability to keep the ball moving and Arsenal going forward was a feature, and the odd well-timed tackle to spare his defender’s blushes was seen repeatedly.

The Egyptian spoke to Arsenal media and said that he is happy at the club and excited for the future.
“I love this club, and I feel like part of this family,” Elneny said.
“I want to continue at this amazing club and amazing family and I’m very happy and very excited for the future.”
Having been nothing more than a bit-part player until Partey’s injury, Elneny’s inclusion, coupled with his great understanding with Granit Xhaka, meant that the Ghanaian’s presence was barely missed.
Boasting incredible work rate and stamina, the midfielder quietly goes about his job in the heart of the midfield: nothing flashy or extravagant, just simple passes to keep the ball moving. While at times that was not what was needed but he stuck to his task and is now rewarded with a new deal.
Mikel Arteta has nothing but glowing words for his unassuming midfielder when speaking to Arsenal.com.
The Spaniard stated that the Egyptian is an essential cog in the squad and that he is delighted the 29-year-old decided to extend his stay in north London.
“Mo is a really important part of the team,” Arteta said.
“He brings endless energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the team and is loved by everyone.
“He’s an important player for us on, and off the pitch, a real role model to our younger players, and I’m delighted he’s staying,” the boss added.
