3 academy stars that need to get game time next season

1. Brooke Norton-Cuffy
Takehiro Tomiyasu’s arrival was marked by a lack of excitement. After all, this was a little-known player from Serie A. However, since he installed himself into the starting lineup, he has quickly become one of Arsenal’s most important players, contributing to a truly formidable defence.
Unfortunately, the physical demands of the Premier League may have been too much in his first season as the Japanese international suffered through several long injury layoffs. While some were just niggles and strains, Tomiyasu was also rushed back into the team on occasion, largely due to the lack of alternatives.
Cedric will never provide the defensive stability and aerial dominance that Tomiyasu does and is largely ineffective in attack, crossing the ball for opposing centre backs to easily head away. The Portuguese full-back is under a long contract and may be unlikely to move to a new club. Regardless of Cedric’s status, reinforcement is needed. In comes Brooke Norton-Cuffy.
The 18-year-old academy product lines up on the right side of defence and impressed during his loan spell at Lincoln City. His physical profile resembles that of Ainsley Maitland-Niles. He combines his tall stature with impressive athleticism to create a formidable up-and-down full-back profile. Norton-Cuffy also has a wide variety of delivery in his locker, beyond a uselessly lofted cross a la Cedric.
His loan was an important step in his development. He mustn’t stagnate by going back to academy football or staying on the bench at Arsenal. He must continue to play and showcase his undeniable talent. Plus the less we see of Cedric, the better.
Arteta will undoubtedly be looking to add experienced members to his growing squad to elevate the level at the club. The importance of incorporating young talent will not be lost upon the Spaniard as the rebuild continues.
