It’s awards season, folks.

Arsenal’s 2021/22 campaign culminated in disappointment as the young Gunners squandered a HUGE opportunity to get ahead of schedule and return to the Champions League for the first time in half a decade.

But still, the celebration following the 5-1 victory over Everton on the final day depicted the general feeling among Arsenal supporters. Unity has emerged as a beacon of light in the wake of deep division from the late Arsene Wenger years.

Mikel Arteta is shifting the culture in north London, and those rewards will be reaped in due course. It just wasn’t meant to be last season as his inexperienced and injury-riddled squad ran out of gas.

2021/22 was undoubtedly a campaign of progression for Arteta’s men, and it’s only right that we celebrate such development with a bunch of awards. A few members of the Pain In The Arsenal Team have been racking their brains over the season just gone, and have each decided upon their: Player of the Season, Signing of the Summer, Best Goal, Best Performance and the LOL Moment of the campaign.

So, without further ado, let’s see who snatched the hearts and minds of the PITA team!

Player of the Season: Martin Ødegaard – The Norwegian was sublime in his first full season. The natural heir to Mesut Ozil’s creative crown. His touch, body feints, and ability to pick out a pass are second to none. Took the armband towards the end of the season as well which tells you all you need to know about his mentality. He had a superb season.

Signing of the summer: Benjamin White – Signed from Brighton, White had a tough start to this debut season but quickly found his feet. Superb in the air, brilliant with the ball at his feet and has become a great partner for Gabriel.

Goal of the Season: Alexandre Lacazette vs Southampton Starting with Aaron Ramsdale, the one-touch pass from White, Thomas Partey got the move going before a one-two between Takehiro Tomiyasu and Odegaard ended with the Japanese defender setting Bukayo Saka loose who crossed into the box for Lacazette to thump home first time. A proper team goal.

Best Performance: Manchester City (H) – From the first kick Arteta had the side playing out of their skin. Tackling and harassing the City side, they could not deal with it. Saka opened the scoring in the first half in what was a brilliant display. Questionable red to Gabriel before Mahrez and Rodri netted to win. Overall, an outstanding performance that showed Arsenal can compete with the best.

LOL Moment of the season: Aaron Ramsdale picking up coins off the ground at Leeds – The Arsenal keeper has shown his personality this season and is often seen with a huge grin on his face. His moment came when the club faced Leeds and won 4-1. He was pelted with coins for the duration of the game and what did he do? Picked them all up and took them home, £17 to be exact as he smiled while doing it.
