Serge Gnabry is entering the final year of his deal with Bayern Munich, with many thinking a return to Arsenal is becoming increasingly possible.

Over the last few weeks, rumours and reports have emerged of the former Gunners winger being a target for Mikel Arteta. Heading into the final year of his deal with the Bundesliga giants, talks of extending his contract have not accelerated as the winger would have liked.

Other players’ contracts at Bayern have taken precedence over Gnabry’s, and the 26-year-old is reportedly unhappy that his future is being pushed back while others are getting their futures sorted.

Could Arsenal sign Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich this summer as the player enters the final year of his contract?

So, with one year left on his deal and the player reportedly unhappy, could we sign or re-sign Gnabry this summer? The answer is a definite yes.

Ultimately, it will depend on a couple of factors. Rumours have been swirling that Gnabry could be available for just £25 million. That is pocket change for a player of Gnabry’s ability.

No Champions League could prove to be a stumbling block, but it is thought that the German is enticed by the project that Mikel Arteta is currently undertaking. The addition of Gnabry would undoubtedly accelerate Arsenal’s return to the promised land under the Spanish boss.

With no Champions League, the winger would likely want to be compensated rather well for not playing in Europe’s top club competition in the way of more significant wages. Something that Arteta has been reluctant to hand out since he took over, but he’s yet to get a hold of a player of Gnabry’s class.

Just what Bayern will want for their winger is unknown, but such is the situation with the German; the club is nearly forced to settle for whatever other clubs want to pay or they risk losing him for nothing next summer. The German giants could be well versed to cash in on the 26-year-old.

If a new contract is thrust in front of the 26-year-old and he rejects it, that would open the doors to an Arsenal return. Real Madrid are also interested, per Bild, so picking between the two will be tough.

One will be playing Champions League football and competing for a league title, while Arsenal will be in the Europa League fighting for a return to the competition they haven’t been in for half a decade.

Having a world-class player return to the Emirates for a cut-priced deal is something that every single Arsenal fan would love. We saw Gnabry rise to prominence with his well-taken strike against Swansea back in 2013 as a baby-faced 18-year-old.

What has given this story serious legs is Gnabry’s want to potentially return to the club that plucked him from Stuttgart in 2011.

It is all lining up for Mikel Arteta and Edu to get things moving. In the last year of his deal, a player reportedly willing to come to the club and available for a cut-price fee is on a silver platter for the Gunners.

What a way to start their transfer business by signing a 26-year-old German international who guarantees goals.

Get it done, Arsenal.
