Arsenal defender Benjamin White has withdrawn from the England squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures through injury.

White was one of three Gunners who earned the call-up for England’s four June fixtures with Bukayo Sako and Aaron Ramsdale also making Gareth Southgate’s squad. The Three Lions’ 2022/23 campaign gets underway next month as they take on Hungary (twice), Germany and Italy.

White, though, will not be a part of a hectic two weeks of international football, it has been confirmed.

Ben White has withdrawn from the England squad due to injury

The official England Football website confirmed that White has been ruled out of next month’s fixtures after withdrawing from the squad through injury.

A brief statement read: “Ben White will no longer report for England duty due to injury.

“The Arsenal defender was named in Gareth Southgate’s 27-man selection last week but will continue his rehabilitation with his club.”

As England confirmed, the defender will return to Arsenal to continue his rehab – likely on the hamstring injury he sustained at the end of April which compromised his side’s hopes of securing a top-four spot.

White missed the crucial North London Derby in May before returning ahead of schedule for the trip to St James’ Park four days later as he struggled through Arsenal’s pitiful 2-0 defeat. The former Brighton man was then an unused substitute for the final game of the season against Everton.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping that White, who was such a big part of the Gunners’ defensive improvement last season, will be ready to go for the start of pre-season. Mikel will take his young squad to the United States for a tour in July, where they’ll take on Everton, Orlando City and Chelsea in the space of a week.

The Emirates Cup then returns on July 30 as Arsenal welcome Sevilla to north London.
